Jesus and Justice
Speaker: Giles Cattermole
The Lord is a God of justice (Isaiah 30:18).
And so, his followers long for justice. In a world full of injustice, we need his justice, proclaim his justice, and live out his justice.
Over three talks, we’ll dig into what Isaiah teaches about God’s justice, our injustice, his solution in the justice of the Cross of Jesus, and what it means to live and speak for Jesus and justice today.
Main speaker | Giles Cattermole
Giles works part-time as an Emergency Medicine consultant and part-time for a church in London. He was previously the CMF Head of Student Ministries and, more recently, the UCCF London Team Leader. He trained in Oxford and Wales, has worked in academic emergency medicine in Hong Kong and Rwanda, and was the founding chair of the RCEM global emergency medicine committee. Giles is married to Victoria and has four children. He is also a keen cruciverbalist.

The medical literature increasingly recognises the important link between spirituality and health. Yet many Christian health professionals feel frustrated by the challenge of integrating faith and practice within the time constraints and legal obligations of the workplace. GMC guidelines approve discussions of faith issues with patients provided it is done appropriately and sensitively.
Christians are called to be ‘the salt of the earth’ flavouring life with grace and truth. Saline Solution is a one-day course designed to help Christian healthcare professionals become more comfortable addressing a person’s spiritual needs in a clinical context. There is a mixture of teaching and small group discussion.
The course will take place from 09:30 (UK time) on Saturday, 7 December 2024 at Upton Vale Baptist Church, St Marychurch Road, Castle Circus, Torquay, TQ1 3HY.
Travel by car: There is some on-street parking nearby. The Town Hall pay and display car park is located on Lymington Road which is just across the road from the church.
Public transport: The church is a 20 minute walk from Torquay or Torre train stations.
A simple buffet lunch and refreshments will be provided.

RASH is a day course for all health professionals who want to support the health, system and spiritual needs of refugees and asylum seekers in the UK.
God calls us to care for the stranger in our midst, to protect orphans and widows, to ‘act justly and love mercy’. (Micah 6:8) How does this translate to the way we care today?
Over the past 20 years, hundreds of thousands of refugees have come to the UK, with many seeking asylum. The ‘Refugees and Asylum Seekers Health Course’ (RASH) aims to equip Christian healthcare practitioners and others to:
- Improve knowledge of the healthcare needs, responses and challenges for refugees and asylum seekers in the UK
- Hear examples of good practice
- Foster a dialogue among those working with refugees and asylum seekers for mutual encouragement and support
- Inspire creative ways to engage with health systems for better provision, support, and care
The programme is an interactive learning experience led both by those who have been refugees and those who are healthcare professionals in this field. Local charities or churches working with refugees and asylum seekers will also find this day useful. If you encounter people from outside the UK in your everyday practice, then this is the day for you.

A Celebration of Limitation
If you’re not ‘busy’ are you even doing life properly?
Ultimately, busyness means living at our limits—and those limits can feel restricting. So, we use time, energy, money, and technology in a constant effort to overcome our limits. Those we can’t overcome we fight, those we can’t fight, we’re told to accept. Which is all rather like a patient receiving a cancer diagnosis: ‘I’m sorry to tell you, but you’re limited’.
But what if human limits aren’t a bug, but a feature of our humanity? What if learning to live well in God’s world actually means learning to love our limits as our (unlimited) God’s (limited) creatures? That’s what we’ll spend some time considering this weekend, with help from the wisdom of Ecclesiastes, and the glory of Christ.
Matt Lillicrap will be the main speaker. He originally studied medicine in Newcastle and worked around the Northern Deanery. He has been a medical registrar, then a pastor and seminary tutor and is now CEO of the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship (UCCF).

Come and join us for 4 nights at Criccieth where the mountains meet the sea, to consider the needs in the world today, learn more about what the Bible teaches about mission and see what God is doing.
We’ll think about what it means to make disciples and how to demonstrate God’s love in practical action. There will be the opportunity to work through practical questions, learn from each other and think through how we could be involved now and in the future. There will be time for Bible study, prayer, praise, learning in groups, wild swimming, walks and personal reflection.
Who is it for?
Christian students and health care professionals and their spouses/ partners wanting to learn more about mission and considering how they may get involved in the future.
Facilitators:
Organized by Christian Medical Fellowship’s Global team and joined by guests with a broad experience of cross-cultural mission work and medicine in different contexts.
Accommodation and things to do:
The Neptune is a beautifully positioned large house with sea views towards Snowdonia and across the Irish Sea. It overlooks a beach where you can swim, even in September (although you may prefer to bring a wetsuit!). See the Neptune self-catering guest house: www.theneptune.org.uk
There is plenty of B&B and self-catering accommodation available locally should you prefer that. Criccieth is a popular holiday destination with beaches, coffee shops, art galleries, an ice cream parlour and a castle. Within a short drive there is the Snowdonia National Park and opportunities for watersports.
