Are you a generalist?

CMF Global is hosting a series of interactive online training modules. These will be collaborative, with teaching, small group work, questions and feedback. This year we’re aiming these at generalists looking for more specialist teaching. There will be time to get to know one another and the subject more thoroughly.

A four-week course delivered by CMF members for CMF members and friends to grow Christian doctors and nurses in the principles and practical Christian opposition to assisted suicide in general and in particular to the current Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. 

Delivered via Zoom on a Monday evening from 19:30 to 21:00 over four consecutive weeks.. 

Each evening will include biblical principles, ethical and evidence-based presentations, a political update plus discussion, prayer, and suggestions for practical action.

17 February 2025 – asssisted suicide: a failure of love

24 February 2025 – assisted suicide: unworkable in practice

The medical literature increasingly recognises the important link between spirituality and health. Yet many Christian health professionals feel frustrated by the challenge of integrating faith and practice within the time constraints and legal obligations of the workplace. GMC guidelines approve discussions of faith issues with patients provided it is done appropriately and sensitively.

Christians are called to be ‘the salt of the earth’ flavouring life with grace and truth. Saline Solution is a one-day course designed to help Christian healthcare professionals become more comfortable addressing a person’s spiritual needs in a clinical context. There is a mixture of teaching and small group discussion.

The course will take place from 09:30 (UK time) on Saturday, 1 March 2025 at St Andrew’s Centre, Histon, Cambridge CB24 9EP. Please arrive by 9:15 for a prompt start – refreshments will be available. Lunch will not be provided but can be easily obtained from nearby shops.

This Pre-conference is for any member for the 15 Allied Health Professions (Art Therapists Dieticians, Drama Therapists, Music Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Operating Department Practitioners, Orthoptists, Osteopaths, Paramedics, Physiotherapists, Podiatrists, Prosthetists and Orthotists, Radiographers, and Speech and Language Therapists), including support workers and students. We are especially keen to invite people who are early in their careers, and those who are working internationally, but we warmly welcome everyone! 

Join us to share your journey and experiences and be united, equipped and encouraged to live for Jesus in your workplace. 

Programme overview: 

We will gather on Thursday evening from 15:30 onwards for a time of worship and getting to know each other. 

The preconference day on Friday starts at 915 with teaching and active workshops and a delicious lunch, finishing at 17:00. 

The theme is Away from home: Journeying Together.  As Christians we are all ‘resident aliens’ – not of this land, but heavenward bound. How can we live in the light of this, and in particular learn from colleagues who have relocated to work in our NHS? 

With our speaker: Speaker: Dr John Bourne 

John was a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist at the Chesterfield Royal Hospital. With a highly-valued team of Allied Health Professionals, he set up the Rheumatology service for North Derbyshire. Since retirement he has lived in Nottingham where, with his wife Marion, he helps with international student ministry and teaching English to those who have come to make their home in the UK. 

We have ten places reserved for Thursday night, but there is plenty of room for everyone, but book early.

Encountering God in ordinary places 

Where was Moses when the Lord appeared to him? Well, he wasn’t in a religious building, a temple, or a designated place for worship. And it wasn’t on a holy day. He wasn’t seeking God or expecting to meet him. And yet, on an average day in the wilderness, whilst tackling the unglamorous job of herding sheep, God catches his attention. And he encounters Yahweh right there. Right then. In his ordinary place. 

Fast-forward to 2025. Do we still expect to meet God in our everyday? Could we notice him at work in our staff room culture? Could he reveal himself to us whilst we’re in the sluice? With reports showing that nurses and midwives are working in increasingly toxic environments under high stress levels, it might feel like we’re in a sparse wilderness. But we are not alone. At NAMfest, we have an opportunity to slow down, make space to worship and reflect, as well as pray and eat together with like–minded Christians. As we hear testimonies from members across our fellowship, we hope that faith will rise in us again to expect to meet God in our working environments.

Hold fast – navigating cultural storms with Jesus 

In the rapidly shifting landscape of twenty-first-century healthcare, Christian doctors and nurses in the UK face unique challenges that test their faith, integrity, and professional calling. There is increasing pressure to compromise our values and more restrictions on our Christian freedoms. The temptations are either to blend in or to withdraw. 

The lives of Daniel and his companions were shaped by a firm conviction of the sovereignty of God and confidence in his ultimate victory. They exemplified a balance that is crucial for us today, staying faithful to God while actively contributing to the world around us. We are similarly called both to stand firm in our convictions and to engage fully in the society in which we live. 

In three talks, our speaker, Peter Saunders will examine Daniel’s resolve to stand firm in his identity, his reliance on God for wisdom, and his boldness in witness, even in the face of trials. Peter will look at how this enabled him faithfully to navigate the ethical, emotional, and spiritual challenges of serving God in a ‘Babylon’ hostile to his faith and values. 

Speaker: Peter Saunders is a New Zealand-born general surgeon who worked in NZ and Kenya before doing theological training at All Nations Christian College, UK. He left clinical medicine in 1992 to serve for 27 years with the Christian Medical Fellowship, 19 as CEO. During this time, he also spent 13 years in end-of-life advocacy as Director of the Care Not Killing Alliance. Since 2019, he has been Chief Executive of the International Christian Medical & Dental Association (ICMDA), bringing together 107 national associations of Christian doctors and dentists worldwide. 

Youth & Children’s programme

This year’s programme will be led by a team of passionate and dedicated YWAM (Youth with a Mission) workers who are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of young participants.

They will organise the young people in age groups, creating?activities that inspire each child to live a life of purpose and meaning.?

They believe that every child is unique and has a God-given purpose. YWAM is committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where they can discover and develop their talents and abilities.

Come and join us for 4 nights at Criccieth where the mountains meet the sea, to consider the needs in the world today, learn more about what the Bible teaches about mission and see what God is doing.

We’ll think about what it means to make disciples and how to demonstrate God’s love in practical action. There will be the opportunity to work through practical questions, learn from each other and think through how we could be involved now and in the future. There will be time for Bible study, prayer, praise, learning in groups, wild swimming, walks and personal reflection.

Criccieth is a popular holiday destination with beaches, coffee shops, art galleries, an ice cream parlour and a castle. If you wish to book a half hour slot with a particular mission organisation represented at the Mission Hub you can do so on the day.

Contact details will also be sent out before the conference to pre-book slots.  Times will be available as follows: 14.00, 14.30, 15.30, 16.00, 16.30, 17.00 and 17.30, although places may be limited.

Mission Agencies

Set-up from 10.00 to 11.00.

Hub is open to weekend conference delegates and day visitors from 11.00 until 18.00.
They will also be encouraged, if they wish, to book half-hour sessions with any specific agency represented.

These sessions should be booked directly with you at your stand on the day or pre-booked with you before the conference – we will send out your contact details to residential delegates once we have a full list of mission agencies attending. There will be seminars running in the afternoon but delegates are free to make use of the half-hour sessions as an alternative to one or more of these seminars. Day visitors are also free to book sessions with specific agencies on the day.
